I am a BOI and a product of Galveston Schools. I graduated from Ball High in 1990 and immediately began attending the University of Houston Main Campus. In 1994, I graduated and was fortunate to return to Galveston and become a part of GISD’s extraordinary teaching team at Weis Intermediate at the time. In the Fall of 1997, I received my 1st Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a Specialization in Bilingual and ESL from U of H Main Campus. At the time, I also transferred to Alamo Elementary and began teaching Bilingual Students until 2001. In 2001, I completed my second Master’s Degree in School Administration and began to work as an Assistant Principal for GISD. I worked for GISD until 2004. From 2004 until the summer of 2008, I was employed as an Assistant Principal with Clear Creek ISD at Stewart Elementary which became a National Blue Ribbon School in 2008. I returned to GISD in August of 2008 as the Assistant Principal at Morgan Elementary. I was named Principal of Early Childhood University and Weis Middle School in the Spring of 2010. Early Childhood University was awarded a Magnet Grant in the Summer of 2010. In the Fall of 2014 Burnet Elementary was reopened and Early Childhood University was moved from the Weis building to Burnet Elementary where I continue to serve as Principal. I am currently serving my 12th year of being a Principal with GISD.
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year at Burnet Elementary STREAM Magnet! I am extremely honored to be serving as the principal of this wonderful school! It is my hope that as the year progresses you will get to know the staff and the programs we offer here at Burnet. It is the goal of the staff to work with you to create a rich learning environment for all students. Student success is a shared responsibility between the school staff, students and parents.
Burnet Elementary is a Pre-K through fourth grade elementary school located on Ave S and 55th Street in Galveston.
Feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns at 409 741-6470 or at beatrizrodriguez@gisd.org. I look forward to working with you and assisting each student to meet his or her personal goals
Sincerely,

Principal of Burnet Elementary School
Mrs. Mary Ann Badalamenti, Assistant Principal
After graduating from high school in a small Tennessee town, I went to Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in Elementary Education as well as English literature. I did my student teaching as well as my first year teaching at Carol Morgan School in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. I returned to the states and taught elementary school in New Jersey and Boston, MA. After living in Boston for three years, we moved to Galveston. While living in Galveston I taught elementary school at Rosenberg Elementary for three years then I taught at Oppe for sixth years. We moved to Colorado where I taught middle school and went to school for my Master degree at Adam State University. After receiving my degree in administration, I worked as an Assistant Principal. After ten years in Colorado, my family and I returned to Galveston eight years ago. I have worked as an Assistant Principal as well as a Campus Facilitator at Scott/Collegiate. This is my first year at Burnet as an Assistant Principal.
I am very excited to be at Burnet and feel a real connection to the school and to the community. Burnet is a very strong school and I am very proud to call myself a Burnet Pirate!
